Preservation refers to a range of techniques applied to the sample to maintain its integrity from the moment the sample is taken until it is tested. Usually preservation is needed for off-site testing to maintain the sample’s integrity whilst it is transported to the laboratory. Preservation methods include refrigeration, freezing, chemical addition and filtration.
