Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP)

ORP is an indication of effectiveness of an oxidising disinfectant in water. The parameter indicates the ability of a chemical substance in water to oxidise or reduce another chemical in the water. ORP expresses the potential for these reactions to occur. The higher the value is, the more oxidation potential exists, which is usually desired for disinfection purposes. ORP does not measure the amount of chlorine, it measures its performance. ORP is an important parameter in cooling tower or swimming pool water. Note that ORP gets affected by pH.
