A sampling and testing program needs to be carefully designed to achieve the intended monitoring goal. The design of the program thus needs to take the required test result accuracy into account. If, for example, the monitoring goal is to detect concentrations of Legionella bacteria with an upper threshold of 10 CFU/ml, it cannot be achieved with a field test kit for Legionella that only detects concentrations of 50 CFU/ml and more.
