This method of sampling refers to a combination of grab samples that are taken at the same time but at different locations. Imagine a long, open PVC pipe is inserted into a lake. Once the pipe is submerged, the top end is capped off and the pipe is then slowly pulled back up. The resulting body of water is sampled at the same time but at different locations (different depths of the lake).
