Monitoring plans are usually very specific to the particular water system in question. There are core elements that all monitoring plans have in common and need to be addressed in the plan. These include the purpose and scope for the monitoring, type of monitoring, monitoring locations and sites, monitoring parameters, sampling strategies, sampling frequency and duration as well as quality assurance, data use and management.
